Six Word Memoir

Brother, Doctor Dee, Nickolas and Me…
If I were Sophie from, The Alchemist by Michael Scott, I would probably write this in a diary because it doesn’t seem like I would just say this aloud, it sounds more like some sort of writing thing, rather than talking.  This six word memoir to me means that Sophie is surrounded with things to keep her mind on. Her brother, Josh, is with her all the time.  Doctor John Dee is after Nickolas, Josh and Sophie, trying to get back the last few pages of the book of Abraham and Mage, the last few pages are also known as, the Final Summoning.  If Sophie keeps her mind on this this will be the only thing she can focus on.  Will Dee get the pages, or will Nicolas die before he can save Sophie and Josh?  The world will never know... Until you finish reading the book!

The Alchemist

This week in class I read the book The Alchemist.  Characters Josh and Sophie meet monsters and miniature men, rats and deadly birds as they venture with the immortal Nicolas Flamel.  Doctor Dee and his mud men now have the book of Abraham and Mage.  But lucky for Nickolas, Sophie and Josh, they have the last two pages of the book, the final summoning.
My favorite character among the lot is Sophie, who is smart, kind and curious like her twin, Josh.  How Sophie acts makes me think of how another person would act.  Sophie does encounter mud men and magic people but who knows what’s out there.  Sophie has some things that I think you could make better, but I think that how the Author (Michael Scott) made Sophie curious and adventurous, was a smart thing to do.  Especially since Sophie and her brother go on such and exciting adventure.  I think that Sophie is important to the story because she has the cell phone that calls the breeze.  You’ll know what I mean when you read the story… if you do that is.
Well, I hope you like the book when you read it!

Inside Out and Back Again

This week I have been reading several books but so far my favorite is Inside Out and Back Again. The whole book is like some sort of a diary. Ha, the main character is living where there is a war and has to take a boat ride away from her normal home. All is left behind as she moves to many different places and gets over fear and anger.  Ha has a papaya fruit tree that only has small but juicy fruit.  When I can, I tend to my families’ blueberry bush.  It doesn’t get very much sun, so there are usually not many fruits.  Ha has an old doll that she has from her old house that she takes with her on the boat ride to America as her only item to keep.  The doll has many different meanings to her so it is very special.  I also have a doll to play with but it doesn’t have as much meaning to me as Ha's doll has to her.  “Pink boy” and friends bully Ha with mean names like “Pancake Face” and “Bo Da girl”.  Ha goes through the same bullying problems that I go through.  I get called “Blondie” and Ha gets called “Pancake Face”.  What I’m getting to is that Ha and I have things that are the same and things that are different.
If you need a good fast read book I would suggest Inside Out and Back Again.  So now I've got to go, happy reading!
